Friends of the Forces- Focus on Loved Ones

Full disclosure here- The author is a military mom, and has a huge heart for our service members and their families. Our son served in Iraq in 2007, and now, as a lawyer, his pro bono work is with and on behalf of veterans. Our daughter formed a not-for profit to support the troops who were deployed and now through the civic organization, The Madison, helps to support No Greater Sacrifice. My workplace has served at Walter Reed Army National Military Medical Center. We are IN with our veterans and their families.
NGS is a nonprofit organization created in February 2008, and is dedicated to the children of our nation’s fallen and wounded Service members by delivering scholarships and resources to improve their quality of life through the pursuit of higher education. Here is a shocking number: In November, NGS published a report that $1.2 billion is required to provide the children of fallen and combat wounded Service members the opportunity to pursue post-high school education.
“TAPS” Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors is the 24/7 tragedy assistance resource for ANYONE who has suffered the loss of a military loved one, regardless of the relationship to the deceased or the circumstance of the death.
Luke’s Wings helps families of wounded Service members with transportation so that they can be together during the arduous road back to life. The hospital can be a lonely place, and the government pays for 1 family visit only. Facts prove that wounded soldiers just do better with loved ones present and Luke’s Wings help that happen.
